Beginning as a popular series of fantasy books by Andzrej Sarkowski,
The Witcher has been adapted into video games and recently a live-action Netflix series. What's up next? Well, an anime feature film adaptation — of course! Earlier today, Netflix announced
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (via
Gamefragger).
It's a feature-length anime film involving the showrunner and a writer of Netflix's recent live-action series adaptation of
The Witcher — those being Lauren Hissrich and Beau DeMayo respectively. This is because the anime film is set within the same continuity of the live-action series. In fact, it's a direct follow-up to the recently released first season.
The Legend of Korra and
Voltron: Legendary Defender's Studio Mir is responsible for animated
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Release date and cast details haven't yet been divulged. However, we can only assume that Henry Cavvil, Anya Charlotra, and Freya Allen will all reprise the roles of Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra, and Ciri respectively — those being the stars of the live-action series.
The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
