Mizu's quest for vengeance will continue in Blue Eye Samurai season 2.
The skilled swordsman's journey will take her to the far-away shores of London as the adventure continues in January 2027.
Set against the backdrop of Edo-period Japan, Blue Eye Samurai centers on Mizu, a biracial sword master forced to hide her gender behind a pair of yellow-tinted glasses. The series is set in a time period in Japan where being of mixed blood is enough to have someone labeled as a demon.
Driven by a thirst for revenge against four different men who could be her father, she's hunting all four down in Japan during a time period when the country has closed its borders to the outside world.
As part of last night's Netflix Presents panel at Anime NYC, the streamer dropped a slew of new trailers for upcoming animated projects and one of them happened to be for the eagerly-awaited second season of the Emmy-winning production from France's Blue Spirit animation studio.
This teaser is the first bit of footage from season 2, following the "start of production" trailer released back in August 2025.
Thankfully, Netflix has already announced that a third and final season is in production and that the wait won't be as long, as season 3 will be released in 2028.
Season 1 of Blue Eye Samurai was released back in November 3, 2023, and that year, it cemented its place as a top-tier anime series by taking home the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program at 2004's ceremony, triumphing over formidable contenders like The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, X-Men '97, and Scavengers Reign.
In a press statement, series creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green commented, "When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations."
"We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue."
In the coming season, Mizu’s bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi (Brenda Song) and Taigen (Darren Barnet) navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new shogun, while Ringo (Masi Oka) searches for a new purpose.
