Last fall, news first broke that Warner Bros. was planning a live-action Jetsons movie with Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World: Dominion) in the director's chair and comedian Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sonic the Hedgehog) potentially attached to star as George Jetson.

Now, nearly a full year later and without any significant updates, WB has confirmed the existence of the project in a 9-page letter to shareholders

The letter also confirmed that Carrey is attached to star.

The shareholder communication from WB was likely prompted by the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the storied film studio's purchase by Paramount.

Legal proceedings are likely to drag the process well into 2027 and extend it beyond some previously set benchmarks. The letter was likely designed to quell some stakeholder uneasiness.

The letter reads, "Beyond 2027, the slate will continue to leverage iconic intellectual property, including the theatrical event film Aegon’s Conquest from the Game of Thrones universe, the next installment of The Matrix, the next Batman film, and a live-action Jetsons film starring Jim Carrey."

Carrey has previously echoed thoughts of retiring from acting, but he's subsequently returned for a third Sonic film, with a fourth in development.

Now, it looks like he'll also be playing the head of the Jetson family.

The Jetsons, of course, are a classic era Hanna-Barbera cartoon and futuristic counterpart of The Flintstones.

The series followed married couple George and Jane Jetson, their daughter Judy, son Elroy, and robotic maid Rosie.

The show was set in the year 2062, exactly 100 years from when the series first aired in 1962.

Set high above the ground in Orbit City, the show poked fun at typical 1960s suburban life despite being set in a world of flying cars and robotic AI helpers.

At the center of the chaos was George, constantly walking on eggshells around his blowhard boss, Mr. Spacely, at Spacely Space Sprockets.

However, beneath all the sci-fi flair, The Jetsons was really just a classic family comedy about surviving bad bosses, tech glitches, and daily home drama.

Previously, a live-action Jetsons TV series was in development from Robert Zemeckis.

That project was set in 2118 and also involved Family Guy executive producer Gary Janetti.

Prior to that, an animated movie from Sausage Party director Conrad Vernon was also in development.

As noted, there have been several attempts to reboot The Jetsons, and they've all failed to get off the ground, so it will be interesting to see if the Trevorrow and Carrey version can find success where others did not.
