Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex and co-founder of Archwell Productions, is taking a chance and working with Netflix to create a brand-new animated series that's currently touted as Pearl. The actual name is shrouded in mystery as this is simply a working title, but whatever the case may be, the tale involves an adventurous 12-year-old girl inspired by many influencial woman throughout history.
Markle will involve herself as one of the executive producers alongside Gnomeo & Juliet alum, David Furnish and Tangled's Carolyn Soper. Award-winning filmmakers Liz Garbus and Dan Cogan of The Apollo will also work alongside Markle. To top it all off, the showrunner spot will be taken up by The Loud House alum, Amanda Rynda.
The series invites viewers to join Pearl as she goes on an adventure of self-discovery. Not much is really set in stone in terms of the series setting or any tease toward the types of plots we can expect. The only real thing concretely known is the series is going to celebrate women throughout history and is aiming to be a heartfelt and inspirational tale.
Akin to something like, say, Netflix's Hilda, which combines fantasy and down-to-Earth story-telling of an adventous British girl, Pearl is going to weave together both fantasy and history. No date is set, but we can assume, as it's only just been revealed, we'll have a ways to wait until we get a proper showcase of the style.
