Netflix, on Saturday, delivered the trailer for Arcane, the highly anticipated animated series based on Riot Games' hit MOBA video game League of Legends. And if you were already excited for this series prior to seeing this trailer, get ready to be blown away.
The trailer does just enough to give us an understanding of the premise of Arcane, which dives into the delicate balance between the rich city of Piltover and the seedy underbelly of Zaun, but keeps the actual story vague and intriguing enough to want to tune in for more. As we already know, the story will particularly focus on the characters of Jinx and Vi, sisters torn apart by magical energy and power.
"Known across Runeterra as the “city of progress,” many of the most brilliant minds call these cities home. But the creation of hextech, a way for any person to control magical energy, threatens that balance," the synopsis teases.
“When we set out to produce Arcane, we knew that we had something really special with the story of Jinx and Vi," said series co-creator Christian Linke. "We wanted to explore the idea of what you would do for your family, what values you’d compromise, and the conflict you’d endure. The story, combined with the hand-painted art style and nuanced character animation we created in partnership with Fortiche, will bring players a rich glimpse into the world of League of Legends.”
Arcane will feature familiar faces from the League of Legends universe, including Jinx, Vi, Jayce and Caitlyn. Not only will we learn more about their backstories, but fans will also be introduced to some new faces as well, including Vander and Silco, citizens of Zaun who play critical roles in shaping the world.
"Arcane is a story of duality. How characters become divided across two halves of a city with values and opportunities that are opposite but complementary. Each with their own merits and flaw," added co-creator Alex Yee. "You may be the hero in your story, but the villain in someone else's.”
Arcane is set to premiere on Saturday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. PT on Netflix globally (on Tencent video in China). The series is going to be released as three acts, each consisting of three episodes. The first three episodes, available starting November 6, will focus on the early life of Jinx and Vi. Act 2 will release a week later on November 13, followed by Act 3 on November 20.
