Johnny Yong Bosch's Dante will be back for more demon hunting badassery in season 2 of Studio Mir's Devil May Cry.
Netflix confirmed the show's renewal today via a press release and social media posts.
In the press statement, series creator Adi Shankar stated, "Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform — period."
And as for his advice to fans for how they should prepare for season 2? "Get hyped."
The first season of Devil May Cry released all 8 episodes just last week to the tune of a 95% approval rating from 22 critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The average review score was 7.7 out of 10.
However, the fan score for the show is uncharacteristically low. While some fans are enjoying the adaptation, particularly praising the action sequences, animation style, and incorporation of the games' spirit, others have expressed disappointment.
Common criticisms revolve around character portrayals differing from the game canon, the inclusion of overt political themes, and deviations from established storylines.
Still, Netflix must be pleased with the show's viewership.
According to certain data metrics, the series garnered 5.3M views in its first four days of streaming.
The first season ends with a tantalizing tease that promises lots of exciting action and explosive combat as Dante's demon-hunting continues in the show's second season. Hopefully, Studio Mir has already completed animation on the second season, and fans won't have to wait too long for its release.
Stay tuned for future updates as we await news on season 2 and the release of trailers and other promotional footage.
