Disney has announced that Pixar's Toy Story 5 will arrive on Digital platforms on August 18, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. The movie is set to debut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 22.
Toy Story 5 has grossed over $1 billion worldwide since its theatrical release in June, and it still ranked among the top five movies at the North American box office this past weekend.
With this Home Entertainment release, families will have the chance to dive even deeper into the world of Toy Story 5 and discover how toys and tech can work together with a slate of exclusive bonus features that extend the fun beyond the film, including an inside look at playful behind-the-scenes moments from the recording booth and special feature commentary.
The digital and Blu-ray release also includes a fun collection of deleted scenes, offering fans even more laughs, surprises and world-building.
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we also have a first look at a hugely emotional deleted scene featuring the reunion between Jessie and a now-elderly Emily. The storyboard animatic follows Jessie, Bullseye, and the Buzz Lightyear army encountering Emily, who is playing with her infant grandchild in the backyard.
Emily then shows Jessie to the baby, telling the story of how they used to play together when she was younger. "We love Jessie and from the beginning we always wanted to make sure she had a very satisfying catharsis at the end of this film," filmmaker Kenna Harris explains, adding that "Jessie deserves closure on her past" and to "love herself and not see herself as broken."
Ultimately, the decision was made not to move forward with the scene—you can watch it below—and Toy Story 5's creative team pivoted to Jessie unearthing a memory box that revealed Emily had named her daughter after her.
