The western-anime style flair that Powerhouse Animation Studios has brought to the Castlevania series was a big part of the series success. Add to that the brilliant story-telling and exceptionally talented voice cast, and the show had a recipe for success from the start.
Netflix, the streamer that produced the original series, has recognized how important a piece Powerhouse Animation Studios played in the puzzle that is Castlevania and has nabbed the studio with a first-look deal. This means that plenty of other Intellectual Properties will also be adapted for the streamer featuring Castlevania's appeal.
In addition to working on an upcoming Castlevania spinoff and this month's Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part I, Powerhouse Animation Studios is set to deliver a King Kong animation with Skull Island. As if that wasn't exciting enough, they're also sticking their hands in the Tomb Raider toy chest to bring that world to the streamer via an animated medium.
These projects join the collaborations that the studio and streamer have created in the past, Blood of Zeus and Seis Manos. Brad Graeber, Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer of Powerhouse Animation Studios, stated that “Netflix is changing the animation industry, and Powerhouse Animation is proud to be a part of that change. At Powerhouse, our talented team is motivated to create content that breaks down old barriers that confined animation to a genre instead of a medium.”
The Final Battle Begins. After a calamitous battle fractures Eternia, Teela and an unlikely alliance must prevent the end of the Universe in this sequel to the ’80s classic. Will the Guardians of Grayskull save Eternia and the fate of the entire Universe? The end is only the beginning.
The trailer above focuses on Powerhouse Animation Studios' newest collaboration with Kevin Smith, Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part I, but as you can see, that's hardly the only thing fans have to look forward to. The passion expressed in the statement from Powerhouse also bodes well for Skull Island, Tomb Raider, and Castlevania.
Which series are you most excited for? In the meantime, Castlevania fans can hear us exclusively speak with the voice actress behind Sypha, Alejandra Reynoso (Winx Club). She pops up halfway through, just after our chat with fellow voice actor Dante Basco (Avatar: The Last Airbender).
