Korrasami fans may finally have the answer they have wanted for more than a decade. A new preview clip for Avatar: Seven Havens shows an older Korra and Asami Sato together, and both appear to be wearing Water Tribe betrothal necklaces, which fans have taken as confirmation that the pair got married after The Legend of Korra.
The clip, titled "An Old World Mover," was released by Avatar Legends ahead of new episodes premiering today on Paramount+.
What Happens In The Clip
In the preview, Jae and the twin Avatars Pavi and Nisha discover an old film projector from before the Cataclysm. A young man with a notebook identifies it as an "old-world mover" and starts documenting the technology, while the reel shows streets, train tracks and a ribbon-cutting ceremony from a lost era.
Then the footage reaches two familiar faces: an older Korra standing beside Asami in front of a cheering crowd. Look closely and Asami is wearing a Water Tribe necklace, and Korra appears to have one too. In Water Tribe culture, a betrothal necklace is given as a marriage proposal, which is why so many viewers immediately read the shot as proof of a wedding.
One of the girls watching waves at the screen, and when she is told the people in the film cannot see her, she answers, "It's only polite." She also notes that Korra "doesn't look scary," which hits a little harder given how the world of Seven Havens views the previous Avatar.
Avatar Studios has not spelled out a marriage in dialogue, so the necklaces are doing the talking here. Still, matching betrothal necklaces are about as clear a visual signal as the franchise could give without showing a ceremony.
A Long Road For Korrasami
Korra and Asami's relationship has come a long way since The Legend of Korra ended in 2014. The series finale saw the two hold hands and walk into the spirit portal together for a vacation, and creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko confirmed afterward that the two were a couple.
The relationship was explored more openly in the Dark Horse graphic novel trilogy The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, which covered their vacation, their coming out to friends and family, and a kiss drawn by artist Irene Koh.
Seven Havens has already given the couple a small win. In Chapter 5, "The One Left Behind," Pavi and Nisha sneak into a hidden room in the office of White Lotus member and Bending Brigade commander Karthik, who collects artifacts from previous eras. While Nisha searches the room, Pavi grabs Korra and Asami action figures and makes them kiss, complete with sound effects, giving the couple an on-screen kiss of sorts.
Why Korra Matters In Seven Havens
Seven Havens takes place 225 years after The Legend of Korra, in a post-apocalyptic world shattered by a Cataclysm that many blame on Korra. In that era, being the Avatar marks Pavi as humanity's destroyer rather than its savior, and the show has made the mystery of what Korra really did one of its central questions.
The creators have pushed back on the idea of Korra as a villain during the show's press tour, pointing to sexism and homophobia as part of the long-running criticism of the character from some fans. They also clarified that Vaatu and Unalaq were responsible for severing Korra's connection to the past Avatars, not Korra herself.
Showing an older Korra and Asami as a happy, married couple, celebrated by a crowd, adds another layer to that mystery. Whatever caused the Cataclysm, it appears the two built a life together first.
New Episodes Arrive Today
Avatar: Seven Havens is streaming on Paramount+, with new episodes arriving today. The series is planned to run four books, so there is plenty of room left to reveal more of Korra and Asami's story.
Do you think the betrothal necklaces confirm that Korra and Asami got married?
