The LEGO Batman Movie debuted back in February 2017 as a spinoff from The LEGO Movie. Directed by Chris McKay, the voice cast included the likes of Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, and Zack Galifianakis. Over a year after the movie's debut, director Chris McKay took to Twitter to confirm that he was working on a sequel.
However, we've heard nothing about that since. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part debuted in February 2019 and Batman featured heavily in that. Unfortunately, the animated sequel didn't perform too well at the box office — and Warner Bros. CEO Kebin Tsujihara took note of that, calling it puzzling. Perhaps that caused the stagnation of the LEGO cinematic universe.
Regardless, Robin voice actor Michael Cera recently told ComicBook.com that he absolutely adored working on The LEGO Batman movie and would jump at the opportunity to do another. "I'd be so interested in it. I haven't heard anything about it, but I would love that. It was such a great process working on that, and I'm such a fan of those LEGO movies in general."
Cera continued; "I was so excited to be in that, because I really loved the first LEGO movie, so I would jump at that, but I haven't heard anything. Who knows, now that everything, every project going forward will probably be an animated one, so maybe it will happen."
Perhaps the actor's interest in returning could revive the seemingly dead-in-the-water project. The first instalment was a success, after all. The LEGO Batman Movie earned $312 million worldwide and sits at a 90% Tomatometer rating.
