For eight years, Lofi Girl has been studying while simultaneously sharing with the world a 24/7 stream of lo-fi hip hop music. Well this week, after eight years of studying, she has finally graduated.
A video of her announcing her garduation was uploaded to the official Lofi Girl social media accounts.
"Finally, finished with all my home," the character says while showing her laptop with the words "The End."
"I don't know what I learned," she admits. "But I'm done learning."
Founded by French musician known only as Dimitri, Lofi Girl debuted in 2017, though at the time the channel was named "ChilledCow." In 2021, it was rebranded to "Lofi Girl," aligning with the iconic animated character.
The channel streams lo-fi hip hop music 24/7, paired with cozy, melancholic animated visuals created by Colombian-French artist Juan Pablo Machado. These animations typically show a girl wearing headphones, studying in a softly lit room while her cat lounges by the window. The blend of gentle instrumental beats and warm, comforting visuals creates a serene and relaxing atmosphere.
The Lofi Girl YouTube channel currently boasts over 15 million subscribers.
In a follow-up post, Lofi Girl said she was going to take a quick nap although as of this writing it appears she's back to studying.
Despite her graduation, Lofi Girl is still seen relaxing and studying. There are still multiple livestreams, including the main one, "lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to," of her hanging out with her cat while writing.
It's unclear what prompted the channel to announce that she graduated, especially since nothing appears to be different. The stream still boasts well over 10,000 simultaneous listeners at any given moment.
For those looking for some relaxing music to chill to, there are additional videos posted under the Lofi Girl channel, including "synthwave radio - beats to chill/game to", "summer lofi radio - chill beats for sunny days."
In addition to these 24/7 streaming channels, the channel also uploads short animated films as well. The latest one debuted two weeks ago, introducing the summer lofi radio, which launched on July 21st.
The graduation announcement certainly comes as a surprise, but as long as nothing changes, I think listeners will remain calm. Now if the channel mysterious got taken down, I think we'd see an uproar.
