While it wasn't how the actor had anticipated, Nicolas Cage finally got to play Superman in the recently released animated feature Teen Titans Go! To The Movies.
In the film, which currently holds a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, Superman is one of many adult superheroes who aren't sure whether the titular team of Titans are up to the task of saving the world. While the big, blue boy-scout's personality isn't exactly faithful to the beloved source material, Cage still had a great time - as he recently told USA Today.
The actor stated that "It wasn't really the version what Tim Burton and I had in mind, but it was just as fun," as well as later elaborating, "It was terrific. It was just nice to be involved in something my kid loves and we got to do together."
Cage is referring to the mysterious cancelled film, in which he was going to play Superman. Tim Burton would've been in the directing chair and the film itself would've been a loose adaptation of the famous "The Death of Superman" storyline. Though the film, titled Superman Lives, was never actually produced. Though images of Cage in the suit did appear online following its cancellation - as you can see in the banner image above.
Cage is quite the comics fan - his last name apparently being a reference to to the Marvel Comics character Luke Cage. And of Superman in-particular, Cage had quite the fascination, going as far as to name his son Kal - in reference to Superman's Kryptonian name (that being Kal-El).
