Singer-songwriter Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, known professionally as Halsey, will be joining the DC animated universe in Teen Titans GO! To The Movies as Wonder Woman - and based on her reaction to discussing it at the recent MTV Awards, she couldn't be more thrilled.
The singer avidly stated at during an interview with MTV, when asked of her involvement "I know! I'm so excited. I'm Wonder Woman! I'm Wonder Woman. Like saying it out loud is insane. I'm Wonder Woman...it's crazy."
Somewhat surprisingly, it turns out Halsey is actually a big fan of the character and the comic book medium in gereral. "Been collecting comic books my entire life. Actually, a huge fan of the original Teen Titans series before they rebooted to Teen Titans GO. I used to come home from school when I was in high school every day and watch Teen Titans. I was a massive fan so when they asked me to be involved it was a no-brainer.
The talented songwriter went onto, not outright expicitly, reveal that she actually favours DC Comics' rival Marvel - though that certainly doesn't downplay her excitement for her role of the world's most famous Amazon. Here's what Halsey had to say on the comics-feud:
I do have to say that ya know, within the Marvel-DC feuding situation I do have a particular side of which I cannot publically acknowledge," Halsey said. "Well because I know there's a 16-year-old somewhere in a parallel universe who's like "really!". No, I'm just kidding. No no no but it's the biggest honor in the entire world, it really is. Getting to be a superhero in this day and age when superhero movies are dominating all, I just feel very fortunate. It was like the coolest experience ever.
Upon being queried on how her Wonder Woman differs from Gal Gadot's renowned and beloved portrayal of the character, Halsey had this to say, "I know. Very different superhero methods though. She was pregnant and fighting, and I showed up in sweatpants to do my voice over so I'm a different kind of Wonder Woman."
It's nice to know that the voice actress behind Wonder Woman will truly be putting her all into the vocal performance. But what do you think about Halsey's statements? Are you excited to see her portrayal of the heroic character?
