Back in March, live-action remake Peter Pan and Wendy cast its two titular stars in Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson respectively — more on that here. More recently, the film added Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell as well as reportedly Jude Law as the nefarious Captain Hook. Well, now there's another name to add to the cast list.
Alyssa Alook, full name being Alyssa Wapanatâhk, is an indigenous actress who has featured in a couple of short films over the past two years but Peter Pan and Wendy will mark her feature debut. Alook has reportedly been cast as Tiger Lily in the live-action remake of the Disney classic. This news comes courtesy of a reputable site, The Illuminerdi.
All the way back in January, it was reported that Disney was looking for a Native American or First Nations actress aged between 18 and 25 to play the teenaged character of Tiger Lily — as you can see here. It's said that the character will have a much more pivotal role than she has typically been given. Apparently, she will also have a horse sidekick this time around — for what it's worth.
Here's a description of the character in Peter Pan and Wendy: "Tiger Lily is indigenous to Neverland with a bow at her back, she is both a fierce warrior and a serene and benevolent leader who protects Neverland and the lost boys and girls from the dastardly Captain Hook. This character will speak in both English and a native language."
Production of Peter Pan and Wendy was originally set to begin in April, however, the whole COVID-19 pandemic swiftly put an end to those plans. Instead, production will now take place in March 2021. It's believed that this live-action remake will skip theatres in favour of a Disney+ exclusive release — much like Disney Pixar's upcoming animated film, Soul.
