Fans got a new look at Pixar's latest offering, Dream Productions, ahead of its debut late December with a new trailer. The animated series airs on December 11, alongside a new episode of Big City Greens and holiday specials for Mickey Mouse Funhouse and Me & Winnie the Pooh for Fa-La-La-Lidays and Magical Holidays.
Pixar's Dream Productions is a four-episode bridge between Inside Out and Inside Out 2, following the inner-workings of making dreams while they sleep. That's right, this spin-off takes us to the aptly-named Dream Productions to see how these Hollywood-type states are made.
Basically, the show revolves around Riley and how her dreams now require "some extra processing," which leads to Joy (with returning voice Amy Poehler) and the other Core Emotions handing them off to Dream Productions. It's there where acclaimed dream director, Paula Persimmon, voiced by Paula Pell, who played in the same role back in the original film and served as a writer for SNL, makes great things happen alongside the host of other directors specializing in different areas.
Things are shaken up, though, as alongside Riley's age growing, so is her tastes and the cutesy rainbows and unicorns just aren't cutting it anymore. To save her career, she has to partner up with pro daydream director and very avant garde, Xeni, voiced by Disenchantment and Monsters at Work alum, Richard Ayoade, who's looking to make it big in the nighttime block. His smugness is obviously going to be a huge problem down the line and the two will obviously butt heads quite a bit.
The short series is heading out the door mid-next month with all four episodes debuting at once on Disney Plus. Beyond the main cast and the aforementioned Poehler, we'll also hear the voice work of Maya Rudolph, Ally Maki, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, and Phyllis Smith.
Behind the scenes, Soul and Luca writer, Mike Jones, serves as the show's writer and director while Inside Out character manager, Jaclyn Simon, takes the role of producer. Dream Productions is very clearly taking cues from shows like The Office and other mockumentary-style productions.
It's also likely going to be the last bit of Inside Out content we get for a while, so it's best to savor the four-episode Disney Plus romp. Alongside the new trailer, Pixar also dropped some images for us to check out ahead of the debut on December 11.
