Earlier this year, Netflix acquired the distribution rights to The Mitchells vs. The Machines, a CG-animated comedy from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller that previously went by the name Connected. Sony Pictures originally planned to release the film in theaters but ultimately sold its rights to the streaming giant in response to the global pandemic, which wreaked havoc on the movie industry and shuttered theaters worldwide.
Now The Mitchells vs. The Machines will be debuting on Netflix on April 30 and we've got a new trailer for the highly anticipated film.
Directed by Michael Rianda (Gravity Falls), The Mitchells vs. The Machines follows a quirky and dysfunctional family in their fight to save humanity from a robot apocalypse. Hoping to bond as a family for one last time before their older daughter heads off to college, the Mitchells become humanity's last hope for survival against an army of angry technology.
Although the premise sounds silly -- and there's no shortage of funny moments in the trailer -- it also has some sentimental lessons and heartwarming messages about "embracing the things that make us unique, learning what it means to be human in a world increasingly filled with technology, and holding tight to the people most important to you when the unexpected hits."
A quirky, dysfunctional family's road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity’s unlikeliest last hope!
The Mitchells vs. The Machines has a stellar voice cast that includes Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Beck Bennett, Fred Armisen, Eric Andre, and Oscar winner Olivia Colman. The Mitchells vs. The Machines will begin streaming on Netflix on April 30.
