The long-awaited sequel to Space Jam, which is set to feature basketball superstar LeBron James, may have found its director.
According to a recent report by The Wrap; Terrence Nance, who's most recently known for the HBO series Random Acts of Flyness as well his Sundance success Oversimplification of Her Beauty, is in talks to direct the long-rumoured Space Jam 2.
Though the project has been anticipated and rumoured for quite a long time, the original Space Jam releasing back in 1997, acknowledgement of the sequel by Warner Bros. was only a recent development - therefore information on the animated/live-action film is sparse.
Justin Lin, of the Fast and the Furious franchise, was once attached but dropped out. Andrew Dodge, writer of Bad Dodge, is responsible for the script - along with an earlier iteration by Charlie Ebersol.
If you're unfamiliar with the original cult-classic, here's the synopsis:
Swackhammer (Danny DeVito), an evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird (Larry Bird) and Charles Barkley (Charles Barkley) -- so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan (Michael Jordan).
James reportedly planned to release a viral teaser for the movie last month, but due to those plans leaking, he elected against it.
What do you think about Terence Nance possibly signing on to direct Space Jam 2?
