INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Cut A Certain Spider-Ham Joke From The Movie
The hit web-slinging animated movie, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, has revealed a joke that did not make it to the final version of the movie. Here is the discarded Spider-Ham joke.
The hit animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has revealed a joke that did not make it to the final version of the movie. The joke that was cut from Spider-Ham's script was deleted because "he was simultaneously the most popular and the least popular character."
Co-writer and co-director Rodney Rothman sat down with The Q&A With Jeff Goldsmith and spoke about the character and more specifically his deleted joke. One of the different spider-personas in the movie is Peter Porker, the pig that got bit by a radioactive spider and turned into Spider-Ham.
Rothman reveals that the character was "really controversial" during the production of the film and also one of the characters that performed the worst with test audiences. Of course, this character did well with kids but adults reacted negatively. Rothman compares Spider-Ham to early versions of The Muppets' Fozzie Bear, a character that is nothing but one-liners.
Rothamn explains, “the way that scene [originally] went is Noir said he lost his Uncle Benjamin, Peter lost Uncle Ben, and Gwen lost Peter. We went through everyone. Spider-Ham said he lost his Uncle Frankfurter. And then he said, ‘He was electrocuted, and it smelled so good.’”
