Just the other day, we found out that
Back to the Future director
Robert Zemeckis will be at the helm of Disney's live-action Pinocchio remake. Zemeckis will also be producing a live-action series named
Tooned Out for HBO Max —
find out more about that here. The
Pinocchio remake will be produced by Depth of Field and Chris Weitz (
The Twilight Saga: New Moon) will pen the script.
While it's thought that the live-action
Pinocchio remake will have a theatrical release, there's a chance that it will be moved to Disney+ instead (via
The DisInsider). Disney has been putting together quite a few live-action remakes as of late but not all of them are destined for theatres. Unlike the likes of
The Lion King and
Aladdin,
Lady and the Tramp and
Sword in the Stone will be exclusive to Disney+.
With the failure of the
Dumbo remake, which only made $350 million worldwide, Disney are reportedly increasingly wary of committing to a full-fledged theatrical release for some of their live-action remakes. Previously, Disney had considered aiming their live-action remake of
Pinocchio for the streaming service.
However, this is just speculation and a theatrical release is still more than likely — especially with Zemeckis being on-board to direct.
