With a filmography that includes the likes of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Welcome to Marwen, Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis has displayed a keen interest in blending live-action and animation.
Now, after showcasing that interest in his films, Zemeckis is set to executive produce a new live-action/animated series, titled Tooned Out, for the forthcoming streaming service HBO Max.
Although there is currently no episode count for the series, it will reportedly follow a character named Mac, who has begun "seeing iconic cartoon characters" that help "him get through a very rough patch in his life."
Alongside the Back to the Future director, A Stern Talking To Production’s Stern and Compari’s Zemeckis, Jack Rapke (Manifest) and Jackie Levine (What/If) will serve as executive producers on the half-hour comedy series.
