Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally set for release in 2024, but after a series of delays, the movie now swings into theaters next year. A handful of stills from the threequel have been shared, but as we first revealed on ComicBookMovie.com, a four-minute extended clip and trailer have leaked online.
It appears this sneak peek originally debuted at CinemaCon back in April, so someone has been sitting on it for a long time. Of course, after the many, seemingly intentional, leaks for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we can't discount the possibility that Sony Pictures might have had a hand in this showing up now.
The clip picks up right where Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse left us, with Miles Morales attempting to explain to Earth-42's Prowler (and his Uncle Aaron) that he plans to save his father from dying in a "canon event."
From there, the trailer is mostly comprised of a series of unrelated scenes showcasing Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's impressive visuals. Along the way, we see Miles battling Spider-Man 2099, a new-look Peter B. Parker, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Ham gearing up for a fight with The Kingpin, the return of Spider-Punk, and The Spot fully unleashed.
Overall, the movie looks spectacular, and while some scenes likely aren't 100% finished, Beyond the Spider-Verse promises to be quite the send-off for the animated Miles ahead of his planned live-action debut in the MCU.
"We are deep, deep in it," Spider-Verse franchise writers and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said earlier this year, with the latter revealing, "We’re actually going today to the IMAX headquarters to see what the footage looks like at scale, and make sure that it has the resolution that it needs to look gorgeous."
Making an animated movie on the expanded 1.43:1 IMAX ratio isn't easy, but as Miller explained, "We're chugging away in the edit room with the team, and it's coming together really well. It's a lot of movie, and a lot to do. You got to keep doing something that hasn't been done before. That's all you got to do. Easy!"
Lord concurred, pointing out, "Details matter. The thing that's a joy about those pictures is that everyone on the crew is so good at what they do. So you just sit around, marvel at all these brilliant artists, and then we get to work with these great filmmakers, sit in a room all day, and just try to make everything incrementally better together. It's a lot of fun."
