The Pixar portion of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event has previously been covered, and it's now time to turn to the Walt Disney Animation segment.
Up first is confirmation that Frozen 3 will deal with the wedding and honeymoon of Anna and Kristoff, whose wedding is crashed by an evil Ice Queen.
In the trailer shown at the event, a mysterious ice stone opens a portal to a snowy dimension where a magical Ice Queen descends on Anna, Kristoff, Elsa, Olaf, and Sven.
While her face is not revealed, the audience does hear her voice, and she certainly has nothing but mocking and condescending remarks for the Arendelle sisters.
Also revealed during the panel is the humorous confirmation that Olaf will find love in the film, as it seems the trip to the wintry dimension will lead Olaf to cross paths with a mystery snowwoman named Samantha.
Josh Gad was on hand to belt out an original love song from the upcoming threequel.
Another reveal during the panel was the confirmation that Zootopia 3 is in active development and that it will pick up on the end-credit stinger in the sequel, which teased that birds are set to descend on Zootropolis.
"All of your favorite characters are back, plus new ones... flying ones," said Gary De’Snake voice actor Ke Huy Quan.
Zootopia 2 totally crushed it at the box office last year, racking up $1.8 billion worldwide, dethroning Pixar's Inside Out 2 ($1.69 billion) and taking the crown as Hollywood's highest-grossing animated movie ever.
The panel also provided new information about Hexed, the upcoming animated fantasy comedy set to hit theaters this November.
A new trailer was shown, where it was revealed that the film has some serious Harry Potter vibes as a young teen girl named Billie (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) discovers that she has magical powers and is promptly whisked off to Hexe, a magical land for witches.
While on stage Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush teased that Hexed is not a traditional musical, stating ," There is a lot of music, but not in ways we have done in many, many years…”
Up next for Walt Disney Animation at D23 was a look at Clay, an original animated feature film from director Fawn Veerasunthorn (Wish).
At the center of the story is Flip, a hopelessly useless mentor who gets stuck with the job during a local annual ritual. His brand-new charge? Mushy, an eager, impressionable little ball of clay. Flip tries to pull a midnight runner to escape the responsibility, only to learn the hard way that you can't just ditch a magical bond. Before long, the mismatched pair is dragged into a wildly funny, chaotic fantasy quest.
Succession star Kieran Culkin lends his signature sharp wit as the voice of Flip.
Lastly, Jon Favreau took the stage at the D23 Entertainment Showcase to shed more light on the intriguing project, Oswald, an ambitious live-action/animation hybrid 3-part miniseries.
While on stage, Favreau teased, "Now, the story of Oswald is set in many historic locations that Disney fans would recognize, like the site of the old Hyperion Studios in Silver Lake, Walt’s office, Office 36 on the Disney lot in Burbank, and then we got to shoot at Disneyland itself one year ago."
The miniseries premieres on February 17, 2027 on Disney+ and is timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's, the company's very first mascot, which actually predates Mickey Mouse.
The project stars Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew), Mykal-Michelle Harris (Raven's Home), Ryder Allen (The Penguin), and Al Madrigal, and also features (possibly as themselves) Kathryn Hahn, Amy Sedaris, Steve Martin, and Albert Brooks.
