Kevin Smith, a well-known director and comic-book writer, recently discussed the idea of a Batman Beyond movie during his (and Marc Bernardin's) podcast. The latest episode of "Fat Man on Batman" saw Smith's co-host mention that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the beloved Batman Beyond animated series.
Smith then stated that, "They should do this as a live-action movie today," before his co-host suggested that Michael Keaton should star in it - wherein Smith exploded with enthusiasm (and expletives):
What you just witnessed was my c** face. That would be f****** amazing. Could you imagine? Oh my God...that movie makes a billion, right there man. If you're like Michael Keaton's coming back, people like 'how is that possible' and you're like 'because he's Batman Beyond B****' and people are 'oh f*** we wanted this our whole lives!' This is f****** good and I am down with this. When can we go?"
Batman Beyond aired in the very early 2000s and saw Terry McGinnis amid a futuristic city and training, under an older Bruce Wayne, to take up the haunting mantle of Batman. Michael Keaton has been a popular choice to play the aged Bruce Wayne for years now - Keaton is, of course, known for playing The Dark Knight in the first live-action Batman movie back in 1989. He also recently played another comic-book turned movie villain: The Vulture (in Marvel Studios' 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming).
Another honourable mention would be Kevin Conroy, who has been attached to the role of Batman ever since 1992. Conroy has lent his deep-voice to the animation side of the Caped Crusader, first featuring in Batman: The Animated Series, he continues to star in animated DC projects even to this day. Conroy was actually the voice-actor who played ol' Bruce in the Batman Beyond animated series - to begin with.
Who do you think should play Bruce in a live-action Batman Beyond movie? Do you agree with Smith's sentiment that such a film would be a huge success?
