Only a couple of weeks ago, Bob Iger stepped down as the CEO of Disney and Bob Chapek assumed the role —
find out more on that here. However, Iger isn't completely removing himself from the Disney sphere. Instead, he's moving to work on Disney's streaming services (both Disney+ and Hulu).
The Hollywood Reporter recently explained this and, in their report, also mentioned a couple of Disney+ series that were in the works but seemingly won't ever see the light of day. One of them was a
TRON series. The TRON series consists of the original 1982 science-fiction film as well as 2010 sequel
TRON: Legacy — not to mention an animated series and a couple of video games.
The Disney+ series would've been helmed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter John Ridley — who is best known for writing
12 Years a Slave. Details on the series are essentially non-existent. It's presumed that the series would have taken place within the same continuity of the aforementioned movies but that isn't a certainty.
It's said that the series was never officially announced to the public and apparently fell apart before it could even be properly greenlit by Disney. However, several months of work were reportedly put into it. As far as we were aware, the franchise has essentially been left dormant since 2010. So, this is certainly interesting to hear.
