Disney Jr. will feature their new show, Pikwik, across major markets in the U.S., South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand, as a cartoon comedy set for preschoolers. The show was created by Toronto-based company Guru Studios, most recently known for their Academy Award nominated animated feature, The Breadwinner.
The show was picked up for a full 52-part, 11 minute show that follows a group of lovable animal friends as they brighten up their little town. Suki the hedgehog, is the main character accompanied by her friends: Hazel, an orange cat, Trevor, a raccoon, and Tibor, a hippo. The show caters to the young audience, and parents alike, with an importance on the warmth of friendship, and valuing team work, but also peppering in some fun and laughs.
The same production studio currently has Justin Time, a show for similar ages, currently out on Netflix but originally released in 2012 in Canada, as well as a new series based off the same characters, Justin Time Go, debuting new episodes on the same platform. Production on their new show begins sometime this summer and will premiere by the end of 2019, where they ideally hope to push for merchandising and branding possibilities.
