Nickelodeon is still chugging along with new series, including last year's Rock Paper Scissors, which proved successful enough for the network to toss more money into the pot and renew it for a second and third season. It's also expanding beyond the show, too, with a whopping 20 minute-long shorts that will dive deeper into the characters.
Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito says the series embodies the creative and character-driven storytelling they look for and that its cast certainly helps, too.
“Rock Paper Scissors embodies the creative and character-driven storytelling we champion at Nickelodeon and the show’s humor and heart has struck a chord with our audience. With an all-star cast that brings incredible energy, humor and depth to every character, we can’t wait to dive even deeper into the hilarious world these three best friends share.”
Rock Paper Scissors follows the lives of the trio of roommates, Rock, Paper, and Scissors, as they go about their everyday lives while dealing with something in some sort of absurd way. Basically, think Fish Hooks but with inanimate objects instead of fish. This show was actually tied to Nickelodeon’s Intergalactic Shorts Program back in 2019, having been the first short showcased during the program.
With the series already going strong with its first season, with episodes including Scissors getting a job, only to find it's for a criminal organization and the trio dealing with a broken heater while their landlord is away, it's certainly a show that has that same ability to continue on for quite some time.
Casting-wise, Naito has a point, the show has some pretty notable figures like Trolls' Ron Funches, Zoey 102's Thomas Lennon, Rocko's Modern Life's Carlos Alazraqui head the cast. Meanwhile, next door, the trio deal with Pencil, played by SNL's Melissa Villaseñor, and their angry landlord Lou Zer, played by The Muppets' Eddie Pepitone.
The series, though, was created by Robot Chicken alums Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman at the helm as producers. Susage Party's Conrad Vernon was also tied to the hip of Bob Boyle, best-known for The Fairly OddParents taking the role of executive producers.
As Rock Paper Scissors jumps to more seasons, with Season 2 poised to debut next year, it's only a matter of time before it arrives on Paramount Plus. In fact, the series is heading to it as soon as next month, specifically, it will arrive on the service starting on May 28, where you can find all episodes of the first season.
