As Disney Lorcana approaches its second anniversary with its ninth set, Ravensburger is adding two new rarities to the lineup: Epic and Iconic.
"This is a request we've gotten from fans, the collectibility is a huge part of Disney Lorcana so to help feed into it, we've added two new rarities into Fabled," Ravensburger announced in a recent media presentation.
The first new addition is "Epic" rarity. These cards will be easier to find than Enchanted, but more are than Legendary. They will include alternate versions of existing cards. As for their design, they are "Open air" card frames with special rainbow foil treatment, holofoil treatment on the icons, and gloss treatment on the art.
The second new rarity is "Iconic." These will be rarer than Enchanted, likely making them the most valuable card type in the game moving forward. These are also alternate versions of existing cards, but enhanced with full alternate artwork and a custom lore star foil pattern. Ravensburger is also using a 3D hot stamp effect.
Iconic cards are described as "extremely rare" with only two appearing in each set. The first two Iconic cards are coming with Set 9 and will be the Mickey and the Minnie in the Fabled art.
With these two new additions, Disney Lorcana now has eight different rarity types. In order from most common to rarest, we'll have Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Legendary, Epic, Enchanted, and Iconic.
Ravensburger didn't reveal the specific drop rates of Epic and Iconic cards, but the goal with these new rarities is to provide more excitement when opening packs. As someone who purchased and opened over 100 packs of The First Chapter and was greeted by no Enchanteds, I'm excited to see the addition of these new rarities. There was nothing more disappointing than not getting a single Enchanted-designed card, so these additional rarities should help provide more value for those who prefer to collect the cards rather than play the game.
"When you open these in the packs, just from the card reviews that we do of the samples, you will absolutely see these and the glimmer and the shine that's so iconicly Lorcana," Ravensburger said. "So as soon as you open that, we hope that the feeling and excitement of getting these amazing new cards is just going to continue to add to that chase factor, add to that collectibility factor, and just the joy that these cards bring."
Epic and Iconic cards, like Enchanted cards, will replace the foil spot in packs.
Disney Lorcana Set 9, Fabled, will launch on September 5, 2025.
