Unveiled in February 2025 during the 20th anniversary celebration of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoon, Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios announced Avatar: Seven Havens—a brand-new animated series set to further expand the beloved Avatar universe.

The 26-episode, 2D-animated series comes from original Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, promising a fresh chapter filled with the rich mythology and epic, elemental-based adventures.

Speaking at the anniversary celebration, DiMartino and Konietzko stated, "When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later. This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!"

Seven Havens will introduce a new Earthbender Avatar, emerging in a radically changed and perilous era.

Set long after the events of The Legend of Korra, the world has been shattered by a catastrophic event, leaving it fractured and unstable. In this dark new age, the Avatar is no longer revered as a symbol of hope and balance—but feared as the harbinger of humanity’s downfall.

With such an intriguing premise, Avatar fans want to know just one thing. How long will they have to wait for the show to premiere?

Well, according to a recent issue of Toy World Magazine, which focuses on upcoming releases from Paramount (the parent company of Nickelodeon), Avatar: Seven Havens won't arrive until 2027.

That's a long wait but there's plenty of other Avatar projects to keep fans entertained in the meantime.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, a new animated film that follows adult Aang several years after the conclusion of season 3, will be released on January 30, 2026.

Additionally, season 2 of the live-action Netflix Avatar show is reportedly rumored to also arrive in early-2026.

Though details beyond the new Avatar and her twin are still under wraps, the post-apocalyptic setting for Seven Havens—where the Avatar is feared rather than revered—marks a bold narrative shift for the franchise.

The 2027 debut may be a ways off, but anticipation is already building for what promises to be a fresh, high-stakes journey through the Avatarverse.

Avatar: Seven Havens Official Synopsis
A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.

Avatar: Seven Havens is currently in production under the Avatar Studios banner at Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank.
