Ravensburger gave fans a sneak peek at Disney Lorcana's upcoming ninth set this week, confirming the arrival of one of Disney's most beloved animated properties. While Set 9, titled "Fabled," will be the first to feature a reprint of some previous set cards, it will also bring some brand-new ones, including cards inspired by A Goofy Movie.

Disney Lorcana fans have long been clamoring for A Goofy Movie to make its way into the trading card game, and it will do so with Set 9.

"A Goofy Movie is finally coming to Disney Lorcana," proclaimed Ravensburger designer and brand manager Ryan Miller. "We've got lots of fans who are going to be super jazzed about finally getting their Power Line, their Goofy Movie cards. It's been fun to work on because we've just had to watch the movie over and over again to get ideas."

Unfortunately, specific card details could not be shown; however, some key art was shared featuring Goofy, Max, and Powerline. More information should be shared as we enter the preview season, when we get closer to the release of Set 9: Fabled.

Released in 1995, A Goofy Movie is a standalone spin-off to the Goof Troop series. It follows Goofy and his teenage son Max on a misguided father-son fishing trip across the United States. It wasn't a huge box office success, but it has gained a cult following over the years, especially among millennials, like me, who grew up watching it on VHS. While it may have been underappreciated at the time, more recent viewings of the film have praised its surprisingly deep and emotional father-son story.

Of course, we also can't talk about A Goofy Movie without bringing up its iconic soundtrack. A central character in A Goofy Movie is the fictional superstar pop singer Powerline, who plays a huge role in motivating the plot. Inspired by real-life pop stars such as Michael Jackson and Prince, Powerline is a stylish and flashy music star with hits like "Stand Out" and "I2I". Both songs were performed by real-life artist Tevin Campbell, and have become fan favorites. "I2I" was actually covered by the band Magnolia Park on Disney's pop-punk album "A Whole New Sound."

Although fictional, Powerline has reached iconic status among Disney fans. In fact, the movie as a whole has seen a resurgence among Disney fans, so it's perhaps no coincidence that Disney Lorcana is now leaning into the franchise with its ninth set.

It also arrives as Disney celebrates the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie. Disney has pulled out all the stops for the anniversary, releasing a Powerline VR concert, a Disney+ documentary titled Not Just a Goof, and all sorts of special, limited-edition merchandise.
