Recently, it was officially announced that Harley Bird would no longer be voicing the character of
Peppa Pig on the children's cartoon series of the same name —
find out more on that here.
However, the show must go on. Shortly after the announcement of Bird's departure, her replacement was announced. A nine-year old voice actress named Amelie Bea Smith has taken up the mantle and will play Peppa Pig for the foreseeable future — after making her debut in this month's Valentine's Day episode.
Smith's agent Mark Jermin provided
Sky News with a statement, revealing that taking on the role of Peppa Pig is a dream come true for the young voice actress.
"Amelie has been a huge fan of the show since she was little, so voicing the title role is like a dream come true and she's thrilled to become part of the voice cast."
Peppa Pig co-creators Neville Astley and Mark Baker also provided a statement regarding Smith's introduction, declaring their confidence that she will live up to her predecessors.
"We're delighted to welcome Amelie to the Peppa Pig voice cast and [we're] confident that she will continue the strong legacy of the previous Peppa voice actors."
