Earlier today, the official NX Netflix Twitter account (@NXOnNetflix) hyped everybody up with one simple tweet which read "Yip yip." That was all, no further context. However, it was just enough. Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender will know that the phrase is what Aang utters to summon Appa.
Shortly thereafter, the official Netflix account announced that Avatar: The Last Airbender will be coming to the streaming service soon. From May 15th, all three season of Avatar: The Last Airbender will be available to stream on Netflix (in the United States).
Of course, the cat was already halfway out of the bag as the official Netflix page for Avatar: The Last Airbender was created all the way back in January and essentially confirmed that such a thing was on the way — find out more on that here.
Avatar: The Last Airbender originally debuted back in 2005 and aired on Nickelodeon until 2008. Many consider it to be one of the best animated series ever made. It's therefore understandable why this announcement has caused such a ruckus.
It's set in a world in which some people have the ability to manipulate classical elements — those being water, fire, earth, and air. They call it "Bending." The titular Avatar is capable of bending all four elements and responsible for maintaining harmony between the four nations that are devoted to each element.
A live-action remake of the series is actually in the works for Netflix from the creators of the original series — find out more on that here.
