Avatar: The Last Airbender is about as close to anime that you can get while still watching a cartoon. The Nickelodeon series was met with an immensely positive reception and was so popular that it went on to inspire several other projects.
The Legend of Korra followed as the successor series to Avatar: The Last Airbender and retained its positive reception. Unfortunately, the live-action film did the exact opposite.
Not to be confused with James Cameron's epic Avatar films, the 2010 movie The Last Airbender from acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan was a disaster, and that's putting it lightly. Luckily, fans now have another opportunity at a live-action adaptation that is headed to Netflix, and after years with no information, the creative team and cast members have officially been announced.
As you can see in the image above, Prince Zuko is being portrayed by Dallas Liu (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Sokka is being played by Ian Ousley (Physical). Meanwhile, Katara's actress is Kiawentiio (Rutherford Falls) with Gordon Cormier (The Stand) set as Aang, the lead character.
On the creative side of things, Netflix announced that the showrunner is Albert Kim (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) with Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Aladdin) executive producing. Additionally, the team includes Lindsey Liberatore (Walker), Michael Goi (Swamp Thing), Roseanne Liang, and Jabbar Raisani helming the directorial aspects.
There is currently no date set for Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
