Between America: The Motion Picture and We The People, Netflix subscribers are going to get quite an extensive history lesson about America this summer. Arriving this June is America: The Motion Picture, an animated film that sheds like on the untold "real story" of America.
Produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, America: The Motion Picture is a wildly tongue-in-cheek reimagining of the American Revolution. The first trailer for the upcoming animated film gives off some Adult Swim vibes, which makes sense since it was directed by Matt Thompson (Archer, Frisky Dingo). The trailer, which is definitely NSFW, is full of over-the-top moments, anachronistic jokes, and a whole lot of wildly absurd American exceptionalism.
All of it is brought together by a star-spangled cast that features Channing Tatum as the voice of the foul-mouthed, testoterone-fueled George Washington, Simon Pegg as King James, Judy Greer as Martha Dandridge, Bobby Moynihan as Paul Revere, Raoul Trujillo as Geronimo, Olivia Munn as the voice of the science-obsessed Thomas Edison, Will Forte as Abraham Lincoln, Andy Samberg as Benedict Arnold, and Jason Mantzoukas as Samuel Adams. There is some serious star-power behind this film.
As mentioned, Archer executive producer Matt Thompson directed the film with a script from Wonder Woman and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer Dave Callaham. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) produced alongside Callaham, Thompson, and Tatum.
For, like, thousands of years, the origins of the United States of America have remained shrouded in mystery, lost to the sands of time. Who built this ‘country tis of thee,' and why? Only the dinosaurs know… until now. For the first time in human history, the incredible, completely true story of America’s origins are revealed in AMERICA: THE MOTION PICTURE — a once-in-a-lifetime cultural event available the only way the Founding Fathers ever intended their story be told: On Netflix, on your phone, June 30th
Okay, so desite what the trailer claims, it's not actually historically accurate, but it still looks like a wild time. America: The Motion Picture hits Netflix on June 30.
