Warner Bros. announced today that its movie adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Tom and Jerry will arrive in theaters on April 16, 2021. The film, which will be a mix of live-action and animation, is being directed by Tim Story (Shaft, Fantastic Four).
The original cartoon centered on the rivalry between Tom, a cat, and Jerry, a mouse. However, it seems Warner Bros. is taking some creative liberties with the film. While we don't have any plot details, previous casting reports revealed a character named "Kayla" enlists the help of Tom to help her stop Jerry from ruining an important event.
Neither Tom nor Jerry spoke in the original cartoon, an approach Warner Bros. is said to be sticking with for the movie. Filming is expected to begin this year, with animated versions of Tom and Jerry added into shots of the real world.
Bryan Schulz, Cornelius Uliano, and Kevin Costello are writing the Tom and Jerry movie, with filming expected to begin this year.
