The rumor mill continues to swirl regarding Warner Bros.' live-action/CG hybrid adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon
Tom and Jerry. While
previous reports claimed that Zoey Deutch (
Zombieland: Double Tap, Set It Up) and Olivia Cooke (
Bates Motel, Ready Player One) were being eyed for the female lead role of Kayla,
Collider has exclusively learned that it is actually Chloë Grace Moretz who is in final negotiations to land the role.
Not much is known about the script of
Tom and Jerry, which was reportedly being penned by a trio of writers: Bryan Schulz, Cornelius Uliano, and Kevin Costello.
Shaft and
Fantastic Four director Tim Story is helming the film.
It has been reported that the two titular characters (and rivals) — Tom, the cat, and Jerry, the mouse — will be animated and then added into shots of the real world, starring alongside human actors. Plot rumors claim that Kayla enlists the help of Tom to help her stop Jerry from ruining an important event.
Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage was said to be the top candidate to play the movie's lead male role, Terrance, who was also mentioned to be the film's antagonist and boss of Kayla.
Like the show itself, Tom and Jerry will remain silent throughout the movie, therefore there will be no need for voice actors.
Tom and Jerry is expected to begin filming later this year, with a release date of April 16, 2021.
