Yesterday, it was first reported that Disney is developing a live-action remake of 1997 animated classic Hercules. This was following Ariana Grande's performance of "I Won't Say I'm In Love" during the Disney Family Singalong television event which prompted over 13,000 people to sign a petition in favour of her playing the role of Megara in a live-action remake of Hercules.
Well, now it's all but confirmed. In yesterday's report, it was mentioned that Disney was interested in either Jon Favreau, Gore Verbinski, or the Russo Brothers to helm the remake. Today, the latter directors took to social media to confirm such involvement.
The Avengers: Endgame directors posted a picture of characters, Pain and Panic, from Hercules to Instagram and joked that it was a picture of the pair themselves. The timing is too coincidental and the social media post is frankly to random for it to not be involved with the reports. You can check out the post in question below (via The Russo Brothers).
What's more, The Hollywood Reporter jumped on the news. They're extremely reputable so their scoops should be taken at face value. It's said that the Russo Bros. will produce (via their AGBO banner) but not serve as the directors of the remake.
Dave Callaham, writer of the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Marvel Cinematic Universe movie as well as Wonder Woman 1984 and Zombieland: Double Tap, will pen the screenplay for Hercules. In line with yesterday's report, THR says that Disney is far from the casting process. No director is currently attached.
