Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse debuted its second trailer last week and it quickly became tied as Sony's most viral ever. The intensely popular trailer introduced us to an intriguing, new version of Peter Parker - one the likes of which we've never seen before.
This new iteration of Spidey is older and more gruff than we're used to. He'll be tasked with mentoring Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a teenager from Brooklyn, N.Y., to take up the mantle of Spider-Man (Jake Johnson) - with some help from fellow webslingers such as Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld).
The voice behind Parker in the upcoming animated film, Jake Johnson, recently sat down with Screen Rant to promote his upcoming movie - Tag.
Johnson discussed what sets this incarnation of the webslinger apart from the previous versions - creditting the film's writers, Chris Miller and Phil Lord.
There's a lot of very talented people involved in it. But the fact that Chris Miller and Phil Lord are part of the heart of that, I don't think you're going to find two more talented people. Those are guys, I am proud to be in their Chris and Phil repertoire.
Johnson also spoke about brought up his excitement towards the project - stressing the importance of positive stories, such as Into The Spider-Verse, in today's society:
As a fan, it feels like, we're in a new world. And I like the new world we're going towards. Everyone talks about this time period being such a hard time period. But I'm like, 'Everybody, its got to get dark before the morning.” So I'm like, “You do see, look, there are some really terrible sh*t happening. We also see the positive stuff...It's exciting. I feel like there's an exciting thing happening."
What do you think about Johnson's comments? Based on the glimpses we've been given so far, are you a fan of his incarnation of Spidey?
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse arrives in theatres on December 14th.
