Space Jam 2 is set to arrive in theatres in 2021. It'll be directed by Terence Nance (
An Oversimplification of Her Beauty) and produced by both Ryan Coogler (
Black Panther) and LeBron James. The latter will also star in the film alongside a plethora of other basketball superstars.
A report from just the other day supposed that the
Space Jam 2 will feature Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Anthony Davis along with WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike. You can find out more about that
here.
Another well-known basketball player who was thought to have a role in the upcoming sequel was Stephen Curry. Soon after losing to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals, Curry did an interview with the
New York Times. The Golden State Warriors point guard spoke about turning down a role in the film due to a scheduling conflict.
"I know LeBron and Ryan Coogler are going to be doing amazing things. It's going to be awesome. Part of it was in terms of things that I had going on. It was just the timing, to be honest. Not being able to commit. And I know Ryan really well. We had a lot of conversations about it."
Curry expressed regret that he wouldn't be able to appear in the film as he's a big fan of Coogler and his work.
"He's at every playoff game. Obviously, that's hard to turn down. The guy does amazing work."
Space Jam 2 is set to release in theatres on July 16th, 2021.
