The original Space Jam live-action/animated film released back in 1996. Though it featured Michael Jordan in the film's most major role, alongside Looney Tunes characters, it also featured a bunch of other basketball celebrities like Charles Barkley. The NBA commentator recently voiced his disapproval of the upcoming sequel to
Entertainment Tonight.
According to Barkley, this sequel is simply unneeded as the original was great in and of itself. Asked whether he approves of the upcoming LeBron James starrer, Barkley said:
“Not at all."
“Well, listen, I don’t care. Space Jam 1 was amazing. We don’t need 2," the commentator explained. The last time Barkley was asked about the sequel, he said something similar to his current standing:
“Space Jam 1 was a classic. I don’t like when people try to imitate something that was already good.”
Space Jam 2 is set to release on July 16th, 2021. Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty) is attached to direct with Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) and LeBron James as producers. Shooting of Space Jam 2 began just days ago - for more on that, click here.
