Space Jam was a live-action/animated family sports film which released in 1996 and saw the
Looney Tunes team up with Michael Jordan in order to beat a team of superpowered aliens in an intergalactic game of basketball. It's a classic that's has seemingly had a sequel planned for quite some time.
Currently,
Space Jam 2 is set to release on July 16th, 2021. Terence Nance (
An Oversimplification of Her Beauty) is attached to direct with Ryan Coogler (
Black Panther) and LeBron James as producers. The latter of the two producers will also star in the film, essentially taking Michael Jordan's place as the Tune Squad's frontrunner.
A plethora of other basketball superstars will also feature in the film - such as: Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Anthony Davis along with WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike. You can find out more about that by checking out
this report.
The star of
Space Jam 2 recently took to Twitter (
@kingjames) to express his gratitude for the situation he's found himself in as well as confirm that the sequel has begun shooting. You can check out his tweet below:
