Paramount Pictures debuted the very first trailer for their upcoming, live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie back in April. It stars James Marsden, Jim Carrey, and Ben Schwartz. Following backlash, the director announced that the film would be delayed so that they could redo the titular speedster's character design — the most criticised aspect of the first trailer.
Last week, Parmount Pictures released a new trailer for
Sonic the Hedgehog which reveals Sonic's new look. It's a lot more cute, less uncanny and less creepy than its predecessor and fans are a lot happier with it. Many have claimed that the redesign cost Paramount Pictures $35 million. However, it seems that it was actually a lot less (via

IndieWire says that it cost less than $5 million to rework the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Interestingly, the report also states that the only scenes which had completed visual effects at the time that the first trailer dropped were the ones that featured in the trailer itself and, thus, the redesign didn't require as much work as many believed.
"The only Sonic VFX that were fully completed were reportedly the ones seen in the first trailer, which dropped online April 30. Most of the VFX were not finished, so redesigning Sonic proved not to be as outrageously expensive as it would have been had all of the film’s VFX been done."
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theatres on February 14th, 2020.
