Westworld's James Marsden and Ride Along star Tika Sumpter have been cast as the male and female human leads in Paramount's upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Sonic the Hedgehog debuted in 1991 on the Sega Genesis and has spawned countless sequels, cartoon shows, comic books, and even manga adaptations. Rumours of a Sonic-based movie first emerged in 2014, and was later confirmed to be in the works at Paramount as a live-action/CG hybrid adaptation, with Jeff Fowler on-board to direct.
According to recent reports by Variety, Paramount has reportedly tapped Tika Sumpter to play the female lead and James Marsden to play the male. While there are currently no details in regards to Sumpter's role, we do have a little info about Marsden's. The X-Men alum will reportedly be playing a human cop named Tom who aids an animated Sonic on his adventures.
Marsden beat out Jack Black, Jason Segel, Owen Wilson and Ed Helms - who all featured in the reported shortlist.
Sonic the Hedgehog's big-screen debut is set to release on November 15th, 2019.
