This November, Sonic the Hedgehog will be racing onto the big screen for the first time in the franchise's history. Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey will be playing the iconic duo of Sonic and Dr. Robotnik respectively. However, also starring in the film is James Marsden and Tika Sumpter.
Marsden will be playing the character of Tom Wachowski, a cop who befriends Sonic - fittingly, following a speeding violation. During CinemaCon, Marsden spoke with
Comicbook.com and discussed his character's relationship with the titular, blue speedster. Thanks to this brief segment, we also now know who Tika Sumpter will be playing: Marsden's character's wife.
"So Tom's a, he's a small town cop and he's trying to figure his life out and what his next step is. And he's married to Tika Sumter's character and they're trying to figure out the next step in their lives and in comes this character that is from another world and they become friends and they...how do I do this without spoiling it...go on a little journey together and some adventures and they hopefully get their answers to life together."
Thanks to the CinemaCon footage, which was revealed earlier this week, we know exactly how Tom and Sonic cross paths. The former is startled by a speeding force, one racking up 760 mph. Despite its speed, Tom manages to shoot a tranquilizer dart into its leg. After waking, Sonic explains that he's here to save the world. From that point on, the two team up to do just that. You can find further information on that
here.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be racing into theatres on November 8th, 2019.
