The first trailer for the upcoming
Sonic The Hedgehog movie was met with a far from positive reception. Fans were massively displeased with the character's pseudo-realistic look. Following this, the film's director, Jeff Fowler took to Twitter to confirm that the character will be redone due to the backlash.
Fowler took to Twitter again yesterday to announce that the
Sonic The Hedgehog movie's release date has been moved from November of this year to February 2020. This is obviously to allow the VFX artists a comfortable amount of time to redesign Sonic.
Ben Schwartz, the voice actor of Sonic in the upcoming movie, also took to social media yesterday. Schwartz similarly announced the release date's shifting, however, the actor also took to opportunity to tease that the character's redesign will be much more faithful to the video-games which the film is based on.
"Coming to your movie screens on 2/14/20! And... is that a GLOVE I SEE?!?!" Schwartz's Instagram (
@rejectedjokes) post read. This exciting detail likely means that the redesign of the character will feature his iconic gloves and probably be much more similar to Sonic's usual look.
Sonic the Hedgehog will release in theatres on February 14th, 2019.
