Netflix previously released Mark Osborne’s
The Little Prince in theaters after Paramount dropped the animated film a week before its release. However,
Klaus, a comedic origin story for Santa Klaus will be the streamer's first attempt at delivering an Oscar-nominated animated feature.
Of course, to secure that nomination, Netflix will have to release the film in theaters, which it said it planned to do at the company's two-day preview event earlier this week.
Klaus will be directed by Despicable Me creator Sergio Pablos. Pablos released a teaser of the film on YouTube back in 2017, which you can view below.
In addition to
Klaus, Netflix also has director Guillermo del Toro's stop-motion
Pinocchio, Chris Williams'
Jacob and the Sea Beast, Nora Twomey's
My Father's Dragon, and Glen Keane and China's Pearl's
Over the Moon in development.
