The weekend just gone saw the release of the first trailer for Disney's upcoming, live-action remake of the classic 1998 animated film
Mulan.
Nick Caro, the director of the new version, is evidently more fond of serious action set-pieces as opposed to silly talking dragons. The iconic songs of the animated film will also seemingly be absent from the live-action version. While the trailer was well received for the most part, it being quite dissimilar to the original is the most prevalent criticism.
However, that isn't an issue for one of the guys behind the original version. The director of the original
Mulan film recently took to social media to share his support for the upcoming, live-action version. Tony Bancroft directed 1998's
Mulan alongside Barry Cook. The former recently took to Twitter (
@pumbaaguy1) to admit that he's looking forward to the revision.
Check out the tweet below:
Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.
Mulan will arrive in theatres on March 27th, 2020.
