Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation saw Kathryn Hahn
(Crossing Jordan) join the franchise, an actress and comedian who might not be most people's first pick for an animated film, especially as many people recognize her from her physical comedy roles in movies like
Step Brothers or
Wanderlust or even her recurring comedic role from
Parks and Recreation. However, around 2014 Hahn did do a bit of voicework popping up on shows like
Bob's Burgers, American Dad, and
Chozen.
For this film, she will be playing the character of Captain Ericka Van Hellsing, and in the interview below, Hahn makes it clear that while she finds the character cool, she could never keep up with the workload in real life. On top of that, she goes out of her way to give examples that she doesn't know much about captaining a ship.
"I mean she's a Cruise Director, like, what is more fun than that? It sounds a little bit stressful though, honestly. And I could barely Cruise Direct my three members of my household, and two dogs. I feel like I'm already stressed out with my to-do list, I would just lock myself in like a, you know the, just the base- the basement of the ship, obviously I've done my research. No, but it's not even called the basement, what is it called? You know what I mean like, the barracks. (After receiving suggestion) Yeah, maybe, maybe.Right, exactly, you know what I mean. Maybe the hull. That's a good one!"
Importantly, and on a more serious note, the actress also explains what helped inform her decision in taking the role, and also seems to accidentally indicate that she doesn't expect to return.
"Yeah, we've watched the first two so many times that I'm - yeah, this was like, (makes ticking noise with mouth to show approval) I got some points.Yeah my daughter really enjoys it but I don't think it's a long term... y'know, yeah, but she's hilarious."
