Next Gen, brought to life by Tangent Animation (Ozzy) in Canada, was originally targeted for just Chinese theaters where it will be headed to next month, but in a bidding war that ultimately saw Netflix the victor for distribution rights to the English speaking markets will reportedly have paid $30 million to do so.
Next Gen is based loosely off a popular original webcomic, 7723, by Wang Nima, the creator of a popular "rage comic" website in China (Baozou Manhua) as well.
The film centers around a loner girl in a futuristic world who befriends a top-secret robot who is now the only thing that can save the world from destruction.
Here's the first look at the official trailer:
The English cast is comprised of John Krasinski (
The Office, A Quiet Place), Charlyne Yi (
Knocked Up), Jason Sudeikis (
SNL, Horrible Bosses), David Cross (

The film premieres on Netflix
