Disney Recently Shut Down Their Direct-To-Video Animation Unit Behind PLANES, TINKER BELL, & More

DisneyToon Studios, Disney's direct-to-video unit, is being shut down, effective immediately - as recently reported by Indiewire.
This shutdown means the layoff of 75 animators and staff, although there's a possibility that many will be transitioned to another of Disney's animation studios such as Pixar.
The Glendale-based unit hasn’t released a film since Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast back in 2015. The studio was also known for, its Pixar's Cars spinoff, Planes which released in 2013 and received a sequel the year after titled Planes: Fire & Rescue.
While Tinker Bell and Planes both had theatrical releases, but for the most part DisneyToons was focused on creating content that would be released directly on DVD and Blu-ray.
DisneyToon was initially known as Disney MovieToons and released such films as DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, A Goofy Movie!, The Lion King 1 ½, and countless more tie-ins.
