Disney's live-action remake of
Aladdin premiered back in May. The film starred Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith as Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, and the Genie respectively.
Aladdin earned over $1 billion at the box office but it's not all sunshine and roses according to the film's lead actor.
With the film being such an immense success, you may have thought that job offers would have rolled in for those involved. It seems that isn't the case. In a recent interview with
The Daily Beast, Massoud revealed that he hasn't been able to land an audition since
Aladdin premiered.
"I'm kind of tired of staying quiet about it," Massoud told the site.
"I want people to know that it's not always dandelions and roses when you're doing something like Aladdin. 'He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.' It's none of those things. I haven't had a single audition since Aladdin came out."
The actor went on to explain that this often comes as a shock to people.
"It's wild to a lot of people. People have these ideas in their head. It's like, I'm sitting here being like, okay, Aladdin just hit $1 billion. Can I at least get an audition? Like I'm not expecting you to be like, here's Batman. But can I just get in the room? Like, can you just give me a chance? So it's not always what you think."
This is certainly an unexpected and unfortunate predicament. It's especially interesting and surprising given that Massoud's performance as the titular street rat was one of the most praised aspects of the recent, live-action remake of
Aladdin.
A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.
